Real Resources for Families Who Choose to Be Different
Fresh Homeschool exists for one simple reason: to support families who have the courage to reject educational mediocrity and take full responsibility for their children’s education. Since 1999, we’ve been providing practical, battle-tested resources for Christian home educators in the UK, Australia, South Africa, and around the world.
This isn’t another sanitized educational resource site. We’re here for families who understand that:
- Parents - not the state - are responsible for their children’s education
- Real learning happens through engagement, not institutional requirements
- Children deserve better than factory-model schooling
- Standing against the crowd for the right reasons is worth it
Why Homeschooling Matters
Over one million children are being homeschooled in the United States. Approximately 150,000 children are homeschooled in the United Kingdom, with about 50,000 families in England alone. These aren’t fringe families - they’re pioneers who recognize that:
Government schools are designed to produce compliant workers who can follow instructions, respect arbitrary authority, and fit into predetermined boxes. They’re not designed to develop independent thinkers, passionate learners, or people who can question the status quo.
Homeschooling produces different results: Children who can think for themselves, pursue their passions deeply, learn at their own pace, and develop into individuals rather than standardized products.
The trade-off is clear: You can send your children to be processed by the state education system, or you can take responsibility for giving them an education that actually serves them - not institutional interests.

- Method comparisons written by people who’ve actually tried them
- Book and software lists from families who’ve spent the money so you don’t have to waste yours
- Practical wisdom from the trenches, not from ivory towers

- Challenge stories that prepare without discouraging
- Practical solutions from people who’ve solved real problems

Getting Started with Homeschooling
If you’re new to home education, here’s what you actually need to know:
1. Understand the Legal Requirements
United Kingdom: You must notify your local authority if withdrawing a child from school. If you’ve never enrolled them, no notification is required. The state does not have the authority to approve or disapprove your decision - you’re informing them, not asking permission.
Other Regions: Requirements vary significantly. Research your local laws, but understand that homeschooling is legal everywhere in the free world. The question isn’t whether you can do it, but what hoops bureaucrats will try to make you jump through.
2. Deschool
If your children have been in conventional schools, they’ll need time to decompress from institutional conditioning. Expect to spend 1-2 months just rediscovering that learning can be enjoyable. Don’t panic about “falling behind” - that’s institutional thinking. Your children are entering a better system.
3. Find Your Method
Read about different homeschooling approaches:
- Classical education
- Charlotte Mason
- Unschooling
- Unit studies
- Traditional textbook approach
- Eclectic (mixing methods)
Don’t stress about choosing perfectly. Most families evolve their approach over time as they discover what works for their specific children.
4. Start Simple
You don’t need expensive curriculum packages. Start with:
- Quality books from the library
- Basic math resources
- Writing practice
- Time to explore interests
- Real-world experiences
Add complexity as you discover what works for your family.
5. Connect with Community
Find other homeschooling families. Not because your children need “socialization” (that’s conventional school propaganda), but because you need support from people who understand what you’re doing and why it matters.
6. Ignore the Critics
You will face criticism from:
- Family members who think you’re ruining your children
- Friends who don’t understand why you’d reject “free” education
- Strangers who assume homeschooled children are weird
- Bureaucrats who resent parents making independent decisions
Smile politely and carry on. Your children’s education is not a democracy.
7. Build Confidence
The hardest part of homeschooling is often the parent’s confidence, not the child’s ability. Remember:
- You know your children better than any teacher ever will
- You care about their success more than any institution ever could
- You can learn alongside them - you don’t need to know everything first
- Mistakes are part of the process - even “professional” teachers make them constantly
Our Vision: Education as It Should Be
We believe education should be:
- Personalized - fitted to the individual child, not standardized for institutional convenience
- Engaging - driven by curiosity and passion, not compliance and testing
- Relationship-based - rooted in family, not bureaucracy
- Excellence-focused - aiming for real understanding, not checkbox completion
- Freedom-oriented - developing independent thinkers, not obedient workers
Conventional schooling delivers none of these. Homeschooling can deliver all of them - if parents have the courage to commit.

About the Founder
I’m Roland Munyard, and I started Fresh Homeschool in 1999 after experiencing homeschooling in England, South Africa, and Australia. My background lies at the intersection of people, education, and technology - always seeking better ways to help families succeed in their educational journey.
I’m passionate about:
- Homeschooling - because children deserve better than institutional processing
- Family - because that’s where real education happens
- Technology - because tools should serve people, not replace them
- Education - because learning is too important to leave to bureaucrats
This website represents my commitment to helping families who are brave enough to choose a better path for their children’s education.

- Believe children deserve personalized education, not standardized processing
- Are willing to work hard for long-term results
